Killing Jesus Then and Now

Killing Jesus Then and Now, a message from Dr. Lewis Brogdon's Chapel presentation.

By Daisy Rodriguez, student news writer,
Office of University Communications

Campbellsville, KY - Dr. Lewis Brogdon told how the story of Jesus Christ intersected with the stories of the United States and Martin Luther King Jr. as he spoke at Campbellsville University's chapel on January 26, 2022. His message, "Killing Jesus Then and Now."

Brogdon read from John 1:10-11: "He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him."

CU leaders speak of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

2022-01-29 - Taylor County, KY - Photo By Dr. John Chowning, Campbellsville University.

Dr. Lewis Brogdon, pictured here, said during chapel that God called Martin Luther King, Jr to show America a path to something better.

"We did not listen to him," Brogdon said. "We treated him the exact same way they treated Jesus."

Dr. H. Keith Spears, president of Campbellsville University, said King preached about love. "What I remember of Martin Luther King was that he preached of love," Spears said. "And if you look at all his sermons, he talks about how love can overcome hate."

Dr. Joe Hopkins, president-elect of Campbellsville University who begins his term on February 1st, said Martin Luther King, Jr was a man of peace and what he did was show us a peaceful pathway in life.

Kentucky Color: Bone Chilling

Click headline for article with photos

By Billy Joe Fudge

Yes, it was cold on Thursday, January 28th, but this find was the real bone chilling sight. It was an eye opener to realize that I was measuring this Basswood last week and tied my orange line marker on a bush about six feet to the right of the tree. I'm so thankful the big Sugar maple tree didn't decide to come crashing down while I was standing there.

In the second picture you can see my walking stick I placed on the left. This root wad is standing over ten feet tall and twenty feet wide. I actually walked to this tree last week and found it to be hollow in its center.

In the third picture you might notice why this tree lived an undernourished life and suffered a premature demise. There are huge limestone rock ledges all over this area and it appears that this tree sprouted right on top of a big one and the roots did not have sufficient soil in which to take up nutrients and water, and to anchor the tree against windy conditions.

By Mike Wynn, LRC

Frankfort, KY - The 2022 legislative session is nearly a third of the way over, and dozens of bills are moving through the House and Senate, including some this week related to package theft, mental health and school board meetings.

The Kentucky General Assembly hit day 18 of the 60-day session on Friday, and along with a roster of important bills, the fourth week of the session also brought some memorable moments on the chamber floors.

Legislators took time to recognize trade partnerships with Taiwan, honor the late Rep. John "Bam" Carney, and commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
