Miss Miracle and her new white-legged baby

2021-08-12 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Victoria Pike of Miss Vicky's Pampered Angus Ranch.
Vicky writes, "The new Momma (as of this morning), Miss Miracle, had a hard time getting to live. She fell into a new hole that formed in the ground 4 years ago from an underground spring running underneath. I looked for her for 4 days and while driving on the tractor nearly ran in the hole. There she was still alive. With the help of a neighbor we pulled her out and her momma came running to feed her. She was able to get enough water from the underground spring to survive those 4 days down in a 4 feet deep hole. Today she doesn't look like she ever missed a meal. Her new baby has lots of white markings."

Gov.: Vaccines save lives, keep schools open, protect economy

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - On Thursday during his weekly Team Kentucky update, Gov. Andy Beshear said Kentucky's economic momentum continues to build as more Kentuckians get vaccinated, fighting the commonwealth's fastest ever surge of COVID-19 cases.

"The delta variant is the most aggressive, and it looks like it may be the most deadly, form of COVID that we have faced," said Gov. Beshear. "If you are unvaccinated, you are at the very greatest risk that you have been at since the start of the pandemic. COVID has been the third leading cause of death in the United States over the past year and a half. Right now, it's putting more pressure than it ever has before on our health care heroes."

The Governor highlighted a recent warning that Mississippi's hospital system could fail in 10 days because of an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases among unvaccinated residents.

On Aug. 10, Arkansas officials reported there were only eight empty ICU beds in the entire state.

Health care leaders from across Kentucky emphasized the risks of not getting vaccinated for COVID-19.

Special events planned by Columbia-Adair Chamber

Leadership of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce met Tuesday, August 10, 2021. With the rapid rise in cases of COVID-19 variant, the full Chamber luncheon was cancelled, however, the Board did meet briefly in the basement of the Training and Development Center, allowing room to social distance.

A business for August was discussed. Lafawn Nettles, Director of Alumni Relations & Annual Giving at Lindsey Wilson College, gave a report on the 2021 Wares Fair where local businesses can introduce their services and products to incoming students. The Wares Fair will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Abe Cross, LWC Dean of Students and Chamber Board Member, said that Lindsey Wilson is starting on time with a mask mandate for all indoor activities and also for very crowded outdoor activities. He said also that the LWC leadership will be watching the Coronavirus numbers and make an announcement in the near future about whether community events can take place on campus.

Fall and winter events are still being planned.

Letter: Good grief! Don't delay school

Letter in response to the delaying of school start in Adair:
Good grief! School can start with masks, while those who want to fight the mandate can do so. WHY mess up a school calendar already over difference of opinions of wearing a mask? Sure there are those who disagree and don't like a mask, but it's not going to harm anyone to comply so the CHILDREN can return to school!

Is this about the children or adults best interest? - (name on file)

LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information 8-11-2021

By Sam Price
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

New Cases: We report that our total case count has increased by 137 since our last report. Our new cases (including suspect cases) are as follows: Adair: 13; Casey: 13; Clinton: 1; Cumberland: 2; Green: 4; McCreary: 12; Pulaski: 43; Russell: 17; Taylor: 23; and, Wayne: 9. Our current new case growth rate is: 1.00381. This means our total case count is projected to double every 182.05 days. The most new cases we ever added in a single day was on 12/30/2020 when we added 301 cases.

We are saddened to report one additional death this evening - a Taylor County resident (unvaccinated) who had previously been released from isolation, but later succumbed to lasting effects of the illness. Our hearts break for this family. This individual was in the 60-69 age range. If you notice a difference in our numbers this evening, it's because we deleted one duplicate case from Pulaski County.

Additionally, out of today's 137 reported cases, 36 of them were in individuals age 18 or under. We are seeing more and more cases in this younger population.

Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 11.22%.

Letter: Masks in school sounds smart

Mary Knight writes:
With an Adair County vaccination rate of 31.67%, and a statewide positivity rate of 11%, masks in schools sounds like a smart move, to me. Masks are a pain, especially since I have realized how much lip reading I actually do. But masks protect, and I don't want to lose any of those lips I want to read!!!
