High Five for the Adair County Road Department Click on headline for commentary, photo(s) By Jim Hitt High five and a thank you to Magistrate Perry Reeder and the Adair County Road Department for the removal of a downed tree across a county maintained road. Most Adair County residents and tax payers probably drive daily on a portion of the more than 600 miles of county roads without giving it much thought. But the duties of the Road Department are numerous, not only repairing the roads as one may think, but including installing tiles, hauling gravel, backhoe work, trimming trees, cutting trees and chipping same, mowing road right ways, snow removal and storm damage cleanup. And more. So next time you're safely driving on a County road, thank the crews at the Adair County Road Department. Thank you, - Jim Hitt 2013-12-10 09:54:22 | Comments | Printable version

Letter: Much Bigger Parades are Possible Lois Cunningham writes: It is a good thing that we celebrate Christmas with a festival and parade in Columbia, but I think we could do a bigger better job. I came from a small town in Michigan, about the size of Knifley. We started a Christmas festival about 24 years ago. It started small with about 12 floats and two bands and a day parade. The next year we decided to turn it into a lighted evening parade and we invited participation from the surrounding towns and schools. Later it turned into a two day event, we had to move the crafters into the school as they outgrew the smaller town hall, had breakfast with Santa at the Catholic church hall, lunch with the elves at the fire hall, we added an antique auction, and a chili supper at the Lutheran church before the parade, etc etc etc.Comments re article 63859 Monday morning quarterback suggests 2 band Parade 2013-12-10 09:21:47 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
