Around Adair, Around the Area

By Ed Waggener

(7:03am 2011-04-04) It's been an exciting week in the news, today is huge. Just hope we have time and room to post it all.

Little items will be added here during the day. The first is one we hate to post, in this manner: It's the kind of CNN Tv/radio teaser we detest: The promise of news yet to come.

It's about a big stride in communications yet to be announced: One of the best institutional websites, a new one for the Adair County School system, is about to be unveiled. It's in Beta now. The District, at present, is waiting to make it public until it is perfected. I'll respect the embargo, but will send a tip: It's pretty perfect now, and websites never reach perfection. That's an hourly goal. I'm impressed with how great it is now.

Mark Hale: Underwhelmed with jobs increase in Adair Co., KY

His math predicts, at the current rate, an increase of 93 people in the 2010-2020 decade
Comments re article 43474. Columbia area jobs picture better overall than last year

Mark Hale writes:
I am so very thrilled about the fantastic turn around in employment in our fine county. According to the latest census figures, Adair County now has 18,656 people. Let's be generous and say that half of those people are working now. This would of course exclude all the children who are too young to work, those who have retired and no longer need to work, and those who are of the working age but too sorry to work.

Now half of 18,656 is 9328, employment office figures say that we have had an increase in jobs of 1/10 of 1%. Now everyone hold onto your hat: This means that in 1 year we have increased the Number of jobs in Adair Co. by 9.328 people. In case you did not see the decimal point there have been less than 10 more people get a job in our fair county in 1 whole year. I think we should celebrate don't you? At our current rate of increase the next time we have a census count in 2020 will will have increased the number of jobs by just over 93 people. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Mark Hale
Mark: Thanks for keeping this most important issue front and center. Any ideas on what to do? -EW
