Baileys visit and share a memory about Rep. Richards

2017-08-10 - Liberty Road General Store & Diner at lunchtime - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
Alberta and Vitus Bailey stopped to visit a moment this week. He grew up on the ridge, "Burton Ridge", and had a story to share about Rep. Jody Richards from their days in the Adair County High School band. He recalls that their band teacher would fill each jug with an appropriate amount of water for tuning so the band could make its best music. Other members of the band with he and Joe D Richards, as he was known then, were Sonny Vance and Thurston Sullivan but he can't remember if there were others. Alberta didn't attend school here, she grew up in Edinburg, IN, the "north end of Burton Ridge" as they said it became known because everybody went north to find work. The two have celebrated over fifty years together. He promises to share a photo of their band if he can find it.
