Scenic Taylor Co., KY: Wise Road rises to meet you

2017-01-29 - Wise Road, Taylor County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) .
Every first time drive can have its slightly apprehensive moments, as, will the road just drop off at the crest of this hill. (At one point, on along in Casey County, what looked like a road turned out to be just a farm access break, and the little CM Honda would have been struck if Linda hadn't thought right). But this crest brought back memories of a wonderful Congressman for the old Fifth Congressional District, Tim Lee Carter, who rarely spoke without using "May the Road Rise to Meet You, May the Wind be At Your Back," as a benediction. It was a fitting thought, Aaron Pyles, a native Adair Countian, was Rep. Carter's longtime contact man, his field representative, or, to put it in today's terms, the Tiffany Hadley Kessler of those days. Back then, Taylor County, along with Adair and Metcalfe, mostly stayed put in the Fifth. Fortunately, the intrepid travelers were "kept in the palm of His Hands," and did not fall off the edge of the world. - EW
