Yesterday's Farmers Market - Today's Restaurant Menu

In the tradition of a local custom of local restaurant owners Lemia Laval of The Mustard Seed in Pellyton, KY, was shopping local on Tuesday afternoon at the Adair Farmers Market by the Adair Extension Office for farm fresh produce for the Wednesday menu. Sure enough, the green tomatoes showed up on her What's Cooking menu today, Wednesday, July 24, 2013, on Fried Green Tomato hamburgers. At this time of the year, most locally operated restaurants are using local produce, either with contracts with trusted local suppliers or by shopping as Lemia is doing. One doesn't have to be told that it's local - it's in the flavor. The bag of Squash? Didn't learn the plans for them, but maybe a signature dish at The Mustard Seed, Squash Casserole. Can't wait until Adair County restaurants are advertising Adair County Corn on the Cob. Shouldn't be long. It's in now. The photo, by the way, was taken right before Darrell Bunnell of Coview Farms opened his stand. It appeared that he would sell out quickly. The Farmers Market at Adair Extension Office has three sessions: At 6am-10amCT each Tuesday and Friday and at 3pm-6pmCT each Tuesday afternoon. The Farmers Market on the Square is officially open 8am-12pmCT each Saturday, but does a heavy pre-opening business between 6am and 8amCT. The Mustard Seed will have a neighborhood Farmers Market and crafts market starting Saturday, July 27, 2013. -EW
