Travel: Main Street Square Reflecting Pool

2026-10-14 - Houston, TX - Photo by Trey Stephens.
Trey writes, "The view looking down Main Street in downtown Houston shows how different a street can feel when cars are removed. While most surrounding streets are busy one-way roads, Main Street features only light rail tracks and sidewalks, creating a calmer and more welcoming environment.

The street is also lined with restaurants, bars, businesses, and other economy-drivers, helping turn it into an entertainment district in the heart of Houston."

The METRORail and fountain water jets are the focal points of the Square, with trains running through a 250-foot-long, eight-inch-deep reflecting pool. (downtownhouston.org).
