Black Stallion Steakhouse voted 2025 Large Business

The partners who are making three restaurants work in New Columbia gathered at the Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet after being put in the spotlight by voters. Pictured From Left Are: Guadalupe Manjarrez, BYO Express; Erick Montoya, BYO Express, Black Stallion Steakhouse, and Happy Cow Cafe; Destiny Montoya, Happy Cow Cafe, BYO Express, and Black Stallion; Daisy Manjarrez, BYO Express, and Black Stallion; and Carlos Manjarrez, BYO Express, And Black Stallion Steakhouse.
Black Stallion Steakhouse, voted first among nominees for the 2025 Large Business/Industry, was the first of the three new food establishments. It began as a shared dream of the Alvarez family in 2012, and when the opportunity arose to open a second location, Erick and Carlos were welcomed to help bring the Columbia restaurant to life. Since then, they have developed strong relationships, and brought more jobs, in the Columbia community through a commitment to local service. -- From introductions by Ellen Zornes, Executive Director, Chamber of Commerce.

Bryan Rich voted 2025 Chamber Employee of the Year
 2025-08-07 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Stacey Biggs. This year's Employee of the Year is Bryan Rich, second from right in the back row, from Jeffries Hardware. He was hired 39 years ago by his Uncle Rollin Pyles to help in the office. He has seen many changes to Jeffries Hardware and he has had the pleasure of working alongside several business owners; the Pyles', Leon Lewis, and now Chris Lewis who took over after his father, Leon, retired.

Celebration underway to spotlight transition to LWU

A big week of celebration is in the planning stage for Columbia and Adair County to put the spotlight on the transition of Lindsey Wilson from College to University status. Representatives from Tourism, City of Columbia, Adair County, EDA, and the school system met with leaders of Lindsey Wilson Thursday morning to begin getting the word out.

Working on the new mural in cooler hours

Artist Dani Ford and her husband, Lucas, work August 1, 2025, on the mural on a western wall of Lindsey Wilson University's 121-year-old Phillips Hall. The mural, painted in rich and vibrant colors, measures 18 feet by 14 feet and covers about 250 square feet on a wall that faces the L.R. McDonald Administration Building.
