New Columbia Police Department Chief Evan Burton 2024-08-08 - Columbia, KY - Photo from Mayor Pam Hoots. Congratulations to Columbia's new Chief of Police Evan Burton, announced at the August 5, 2024 City Council meeting. From left are: CPD Sergeant Justin Cross, Officer Tyler McKinney, Officer Ethan Pike, Officer Trevor Foster, Chief Evan Burton and his wife Cassie Jo. He began his law enforcement career with the Russell County Sheriff's Office where he worked his way up to a Patrol Sergeant and K9 Handler and was a 2012 Graduate of The Department of Criminal Justice Training. He transferred to the Columbia Police Department in 2019 and in 2022 graduated from the Academy of Police Supervision and currently serves as a Detective Sergeant. The Chamber of Commerce announced at the recent banquet that Detective Sergeant Burton had been elected the 2024 First Responder of the Year. Letter: Plastics are dangerous to cattle 2024-08-08 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Vicky Pike of Miss Vicky's Pampered Angus Ranch. So, this floating around in my field with 15 prime angus heifers has my drawers in a twist. This could have been chewed on by my girls and become stuck in their throat and 1-4 or more could have died. That's unacceptable whether they are worth $1 or $2,000. Right now the higher figure is close to it. Balloons, ice bags, grocery bags, and anything thin plastic is a danger. Cattle are like children they explore with their mouth. Please keep these contained and never release them. What goes up must come down. They don't float off to heaven. Some poor animal exploring can die a horrible death by suffocating when lodged in their throat or stomach. Please do better people. End of rant. Miss Vicky. Getting this sewer collection set is the most difficult job of the whole expansion project, according to Bobby Morrison, projects leader on the Green River Commerce Park. He cites Cumberland Pipeline's excellent work, especially overcoming problems caused by all the rain and mud.
