Grandparents raising young ones celebrated

Adair County Grand Group and The Support Agency successfully hosted the 'Grandparents are Heroes' mini conference Tuesday, providing grandparents with breakfast, lunch, door prize opportunities, and story-sharing sessions. The event was held at the Welcome and Development Center in Columbia. For more information, call 270-384-6020 for contacts.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Cottage Pie

A mixture of ground beef, onions, celery, spices and leftover corn was topped with mashed potatoes and a sprinkling of cheddar cheese before baking in the oven. The potato layer didn't stay distinctly layered for serving.

Can anyone tell us what this event was? It was a special, annual celebration in Columbia and these women were among the volunteers making it happen. If you can name it, and the volunteer's names, you'll be the great memory super star of today!

Sheriffs Deputy Josh Phipps killed in line of duty

Russell County Fiscal Court: "Russell County citizens it is with a heavy heart that one of our own Sheriffs Deputies Josh Phipps has been killed in the line of duty.

"Our deepest prayers for comfort and peace are needed for his family and our community. Continued prayers for all law enforcement who put their life on the line each day to ensure our safety and freedom."

Scenic Green County, KY: first colors of fall
