Quilt art design is Garden Bouquet
2024-09-26 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Thanks to Jill Petrey for giving details to do further research on the special quilt featured earlier on Columbia Magazine. The name of the quilt pattern appears to be "Garden Bouquet." The pattern was syndicated under the title of The Nancy Page Quilt Club, with one block per week being offered in prominent newspapers during the early 1930s to 1933. Each block had an urn with the two birds on it and a different flower in the middle.

Kentucky Color: Sorghum Syrup
2024-09-26 - Great Wooded South - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge. Billy Joe writes, "Pork was the most important source of protein for our subsistence farming forefathers. Sorghum molasses and butter were very important sources of energy for their daylight to dark workdays in summer and for those long, cold nights of winter. Waffles were always popular with Maple syrup but, Lord have mercy, waffles with butter and sorghum syrup has won my heart!"
