Band members celebrating 2024 journey

As we celebrate this special week for the Adair Band, enjoy this throwback from the beginning of the marching season at the Mark Twain exhibition show. The Seniors along with Adair County Schools Superintendent Jason Faulkner present members of the Murray State University Marching Band with a plaque of appreciation for their performance. Adair band members pictured (from l-r) are: Jake Bryant, Grant Adamson, James LeDuc, Destiny Creason, Kaydence Karnes, Carlee Huckaby, Lash Davenport and Mercy Peterson. First female to serve as AC Superintendent

At the 2024 Silent City history walk through the Columbia Cemetery, thanks to Lee Ann Jessee, pictured here, we got to meet Georgia Reed Shelton who taught school in one room schools in Adair County and became very involved with the school administration, and fundraising. She served as the first female to be Adair County School Superintendent.

A glimpse of Dr. John Nicholas Page's life

Mike Watson, pictured here, portrayed Dr. John Nicholas Page, an early druggist in Columbia, when their biggest competition was the doctors who also provided medicines. From Mike's research, he shared this history at Silent City 2024 in the historic Columbia Cemetery. Dr. Page spent most of his life in Columbia, except for a few winters in his latter days when he would spend the winter with his daughter and family in Louisville.

Dave Thomas, at left, portrayed Marshall H. Marcum, Columbia hotel owner and businessman in the 2024 Silent City walk. The event had one of its largest crowds, walkers from the Library as well as those who drove in, on a perfect October evening, just cold enough to require coats. We'll add photos and history about each as the performers have time to share their notes.
