Samantha Oakes, manager of Morgan-Smith Industries in Columbia, was guest speaker at the recent Columbia Adair Chamber of Commerce meeting. She shared the special wood products made here. She said the company could use a few more good employees - they will do the training. Morgan-Smith is located in the Industrial Park where OshKosh once was. They provided lunch for the regular meeting, and will also be providing hot chocolate, water, and rest area for parade entrants at this Saturday's Christmas in Columbia parade lineup.

Genealogical Society Christmas Show and Tell on Monday
 2024-12-02 - Columbia, KY - Photo courtesy Mike Watson. The Adair County Genealogical Society will meet Monday, December 2, 2024 in usual fashion at 5pmCT at the Adair Genealogy and History Research Center, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY.
This is our annual Christmas Social and Show & Tell program where anyone may bring an artifact or item to show and tell the group about its historical significance. Everyone is invited to attend and be part of the event. Refreshments will be served and good fellowship is always extended.

Christopher Rowe and his Mom Rita at Book Fair

Christopher Rowe, author of Science Fiction and Fantasy, was joined by his mother Rita Rich Yates at the 2024 Adair County Book Fair. Seven of his novels have been published and he has two more under contract. He has been a finalist for the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, Neukom Institute, and Theodore Sturgeon Awards. His stories have been frequently reprinted, translated into a half-dozen languages around the world, and praised by the New York Times Book Review. His short fiction was collected in Telling the Map from Small Beer Press.

She manages the historic log cabin that the Giles couple built and wrote many novels from.

Adair County Arts Council tree among first to go up
 2024-12-01 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The Christmas Tree contest is underway at the Genealogy Center and one of the first to arrive was the Adair County Arts Council tree. The beautiful gold foil garland was made and placed on the tree by Joyce Coomer who also designed the logo cards dotted about the tree. Other ACAC members added items to the tree reflecting all areas of the arts - music, writing, photography, textiles, design, painting, etc.
