The home of Mike and Thelma Robertson, 502 Rice Drive, Columbia will be on the Adair County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Home Tour Sunday, December 8th. Thelma writes, "The home was built in 2017 with a Screened In Front Porch for a Southern Flair. We have a mix of Modern/Coastal/Traditional Furnishings as well as time worn Antiques. The home is decorated with a Natural Element "Winter feel" rather than Santa Claus. This is our fourth time hosting for the Holiday Home Tour. Travel: The Wood Tower

2024-12-03 - Mainz, Germany - Photo by Veronica Arnold.
While traveling in Germany, the Arnold family took a day trip to the city of Mainz, the capital and largest city of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Veronica says, "We saw the Holzturm, near the banks of Rhine. The weather was gross, cold, foggy. So we couldn't see the river clearly. But was hard to miss this medieval tower. "

Wikipedia says, "The Wood Tower (German: Holzturm) is a mediaeval tower in Mainz, Germany, with the Iron Tower and the Alexander Tower one of three remaining towers from the city walls. Its current Gothic appearance dates to the early 15th century. It is so named because wood used to be piled next to it on the bank of the Rhine"

Travel: Mainz Cathedral

2024-12-03 - Mainz, Germany - Photo by Veronica Arnold.
The Mainz Cathedral on a cold, foggy afternoon. Wikipedia says that the historic Mainz Cathedral or St. Martin's Cathedral (German: Mainzer Dom, Martinsdom or, officially, Der Hohe Dom zu Mainz) is located near the historical center and pedestrianized market square of the city of Mainz, Germany. This 1000-year-old Roman Catholic cathedral is the site of the episcopal see of the Bishop of Mainz."

Veronica said of their visit, "Besides a cool looking building, this church was a welcome visit to get out of the cold for a while... thankful that all across Europe, often you can step inside churches to get a quick respite from the weather."
