Town Branch provides insight into pioneer thinking
2024-12-18 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge. Billy Joe writes, "Town Branch, which begins near the intersection of Willis and Tutt Streets, has been squeezed and manipulated over the years. After last night's frequent downpours, it is running flush on its way to empty into Russell Creek right behind NAPA Auto Parts.
In my mind's eye, I can see why Columbia was located exactly where it is. Town Branch would have furnished a clean and dependable source of water for our pioneer forefathers while being located above the flood zone of both Russell Creek and Pettit's Fork--which almost encircle the entire town--allowing for the need of additional water as growth would inevitably take place."
