Chad Wheet voted Chamber 2025 First Responder

Chad Wheet, Adair County Ambulance Director, was voted from this group of nominees as the First Responder of the year. Shelby Hatcher, TJ Health Columbia, Director of Nursing, accepted the award on his behalf.

He began his career in 2006 in Boyle County where he received his required certification. He then began his dream job with the Adair County Ambulance Service in 2007. He worked on advanced certifications through the years and became a paramedic in 2011. He also served as a flight paramedic for Air Evac Life Team and was promoted to Assistant Ambulance Director in 2020. In March of this year, he reached the pinnacle of his career and was appointed by the Ambulance Board as the Adair County Ambulance Director. -- From introductions by Ellen Zornes, Executive Director, Chamber of Commerce

Dr. Van Giles voted 2025 Health Advocate of the Year

Dr. Van Giles, or Dr. Van as he is called, was voted among the nominees as the Health Advocate of the Year. The Adair County native is a board-certified physician who attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He furthered his training with an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky, where he served as the Primary Care Chief Resident.

Van chose to follow his original dream of returning home and has been practicing medicine alongside his father, Dr. Chuck Giles. Van and his wife, Karli, also an Adair Countian, and their two young sons, Kip and Guy, enjoy being back home. -- From introductions by Ellen Zornes, Executive Director, Chamber of Commerce

At the August 2025 Columbia City Council meeting

Vicky Pike writes from her Pampered Angus Ranch, “Monday night’s City Council meeting was the second reading to annex Zippy and I into the city. Thank you to all those who made this possible. Special appreciation to Florence Browne, my real estate agent, who traveled from Louisville to be a part of this. Mayor Pam has been great to work with on it.”
All Council members were present for the meeting, from left: Vicky Pike, Dr. Ronald Rogers, Hannah Peck, Mark Harris, Woody Sharpe, Mayor Hoots, Mike Harris, Sharon Payne, Craig Dean and Rhonda Loy.

The Center for Rural Development and Lake Cumberland Performance Arts will be presenting "Taylorville," a high-energy Taylor Swift tribute band, at 7pmET on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in a one-night-only live concert performance in Somerset.
