Adair County Kwik Lube voted Small Business of 2025
2025-08-05 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Stacey Biggs. From this group of nominees, Adair County Kwik Lube was voted the 2025 Small Business of the Year. In 2017, four local business leaders came together with a shared goal - to create jobs and offer Adair County a new option for oil changes, new tires, and a wide range of auto services. From that vision, Adair County Kwik Lube was born.
Located at 232 Will Walker Road in the Pinewood Shopping Center, the business is managed by Bruce and Shannon Sexton, with strong support from business partners and family, Mendel and LaGene Sexton. Together, this team has transformed their venture into a cornerstone of New Columbia's automotive service industry. -- From introductions by Ellen Zornes, Executive Director, Chamber of Commerce

Fire Department voted the 2025 Volunteer of the Year
2025-08-05 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Stacey Biggs. These are the nominees for the Volunteer of the Year. The Columbia-Adair County Fire Department got the top vote for the 2025 Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year award. The Columbia Fire Department and the Adair County Fire Department are two separate entities but share equipment and the building on Merchant Street in Columbia. They also share fire fighters when the need arises, as it often does.
When they're not out fighting fires in our community and sometimes even surrounding ones, they are training to be able to provide us with top notch fire protection. Or they are holding fundraisers, like their annual Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction or participating in road blocks, all to raise money for the WHAS Crusade for Children which seems to set a new record each year in money raised... and of course all of that money comes back to Adair County for our special needs children. -- From introductions by Ellen Zornes, Executive Director, Chamber of Commerce

Congratulations to Adair County High School FFA
2025-08-05 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Stacey Biggs. The 2025 Agricultural award given by the Columbia Adair Chamber of Commerce went to the Adair County High School FFA. When you mention agriculture in Adair County, one group really stands out -- FFA -- working to build Future Farm leaders through experience. Students work with livestock on a regular basis in the livestock handling facility and we lead the way in the Kentucky Jr Cattleman Cattle Working Contest.
In addition, Adair County FFA is honored to operate a state-of-the-art greenhouse that offer plant sales to the community. And our shop allows students the opportunity to refurbish and fabricate equipment and structures that are necessary in an agricultural operation. This hands on experience gives students real-world lessons in entrepreneurship, responsibility, and production agriculture. -- From introductions by Ellen Zornes, Executive Director, Chamber of Commerce

Happy 90th Birthday, Allan Mercer Parnell
2025-08-04 - Louisville, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Allan Parnell, Adair County native son and former Chair of the Lindsey Wilson Board of Trustees, thanked all who attended his 90th birthday celebration Saturday evening in Louisville. His daughters and grandchildren gave him a huge party to honor his nine decades of living and giving to his family, his friends and organizations he supports, and his work family at Mister "P" Express. Everyone wished him another 10 at least!
