Veronica writes, "Spotted on the Zinnias (apparently a favorite of most butterflies) is a Gulf Fritillary. I believe it to be a Gulf one because of the three white spots on each wing and the more orange darker hue than a regular Variegated Fritillary.
In these pictures you can see the butterfly's long tongue being used to find nectar in these flowers. I was able to stand right there, less than arms' reach away... guess the nectar was so good this flying guy didn't care that I stopped to spy."
