Polarine was a brand of Motor Oil distributed by Standard Oil Inc in the first part of the 20th century. Derrick Helm's grandfather, Polarine Helm, from Russell County, was named when his father saw a Polarine Motor Oil truck delivering oil to his store in Olga, KY in 1924. His other grandfather, Wesley Giles, was from Adair County (Pellyton Community).
The ballot box in the picture is the Republican ballot box for the Olga Precinct in Russell County. The Olga Precinct was later combined with what is now known as the Bryan Precinct in the lower end of Russell County. Comments | Permalink
