Bike trip landmark noted at Betty's OK Country Cooking

2026-05-17 - Columbia, KY - Photo from Tom Waggener

Tom Waggener challenged himself to a 100-mile bike ride and stopped at Betty's, one of his favorite food places, to mark the spot when he was very near to his goal.

He made the 5 hour and 20 minute trip from his home in downtown Shelbyville to the courthouse square in his native downtown Columbia (exactly 100 miles) on April 25, 2026.

He made the trip on the Carbon road bike from Elves pictured at the base of Betty's sign. It was bought as a frameset and assembled by Tom. Elves bikes do not come fully built; assembly is required and he says is more involved compared to mainstream brands like Raleigh or Schwinn (which come 85% assembled). He enjoys the building process. He sells, assembles and repairs bikes and can be reached at tmwaggener@gmail.com .
