Killdeer on the nest

Veronica writes, "Leaving our 4-H Garden Club meeting last night, two clubbers excitedly proclaimed that a killdeer was out in front. The two girls did accurately identify the bird as a Killdeer.
The bird apparently has made a nest in the rocks in front of the classroom entrance. We carefully observed the bird so as not to disturb her from her nest. We discussed how the birds protect their nests by feigning injury to lure predators away. I was pleased with how the girls had a great club meeting and then took enjoyment watching native birds outside." Comments | Permalink
