Winter gardening makes for health and savings

2025-12-17 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Wendy Butler Burt
Wendy Burt shared her winter garden recently. She is growing Brussels Sprouts in Adair County. She writes, "I choose cold-hardy varieties and just use a few time-tested, low-tech growing techniques. Everything pictured [on her Facebook page], except the lettuce, which thrives in a cold frame, grows in the open. The root crops - carrots, beets, radishes - need to be harvested before the REALLY cold weather sets in OR can be covered with a thick layer of hay/straw."
