Birds of Kentucky: Northern Harrier

2024-03-01 - Seymour, IN - Photo by Pen
All About Birds says of them, "Northern Harriers fly low over the ground when hunting, weaving back and forth over fields and marshes as they watch and listen for small animals." I watched a pair of them hunting over a field on a recent visit to Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge - they tend to move north to nest, but are common winter visitors to both Indiana and Kentucky.
