Historic mural, lost and found and lost again

2023-11-07 - Green Co., KY - Photo by Larry J. Smith, Central Kentucky Historian
This vintage 1940's Double Cola advertisement on the James Skaggs Grocery at Summersville, Kentucky, had been hidden away by construction for nearly 80 years. It was found again over the weekend as workers demolished the neighboring buildings to make way for road construction on Highway 61.

This historic store building is being razed as well, because the Kentucky Department of Transportation says it's sitting on the public right of away.

The Double Cola sign will become just a snapshot in time--after being covered up for nearly 80 years, it will soon be gone forever.
