Remembering Welby Sandidge and his journey west

Welby Sandidge grew up outside Edmonton and, as many did during the Depression era, went west to seek an income. He came back to Metcalfe County to get his girl, Isabelle Leftwich, and they would marry and start their family in California. City Council opens first meeting of 2023

The Columbia City Council held its first meeting of 2023 on Tuesday, January third since the holiday fell on the regular schedule of first Monday. Two new council members were welcomed and appointments were made. A bid was approved which will allow landscape architect Darren Henson to move ahead with the walking path at the Citizens Park on Burkesville Street. Pictured from left are: council members Dr. Ronald Rogers, Robert Flowers and Mark Harris; City Clerk Woody Sharpe, Mayor Pamela Hoots, City Attorney Derrick Helm; and council members Sharon Payne, Hannah Peck and Rhonda Loy.
