Preparing country hams for KY State Fair

Allee Campbell, Claire Loy and Ava Loy were working at the Adair County Extension Office Tuesday, making final preparations for their hams which will be judged in the Kentucky State Fair 4-H Ham Project this Thursday.
Their hams will be judged and they will be giving a speech on the history of country hams. Senior 4-H members will give a speech on the pests that affect hams and how to control them. Adair County will have 32 youth participating among over 900 in the 4-H Ham Project. Comments | Permalink

Courthouse clock among wishes for restoration

As work progresses on Adair County's historic Courthouse we often hear hopes that the clock will once again be made to work. For years now, since Carl Hutchison's day when he could climb up the inside and keep it going, the clock has only been right twice a day on each of the four sides. Many in and outside of the Adair Heritage Association have studied and tried to recruit clock masters with no luck so far. The last word is that there are parts in the clock that have to be rebuilt. Birds of Kentucky: Limpkin

A Limpkin stopped by Lake Shelby back in May and made quite a stir among the local birdwatchers. This may or may not be the same bird, but it's the 2nd occurrence at Lake Shelby this year. While Limpkins are common along US coastal waters, they have not been frequently reported in Kentucky. Comments | Permalink
