Surprise Lilies, Aunt Isabelle grew them

Every summer in a sea of orange lilies, both wild and fine bred, these gentle pinks bloom and catch us by surprise. That's probably why they are called "Surprise Lilies." I always think of my Aunt Isabelle Leftwich Sandidge who grew them in Edmonton. They'd brighten the farm just when every living thing was beginning to look tired and dusty, in the humid August heat and we couldn't help but smile. Comments | Permalink
