Irish Bottom Christian Church

2025-04-11 - Cumberland Co., KY - Photo by Robert Ellis, robertelliswoodworking.com
Robert writes, "I found very little about this church building online. I was, however, able to find the name of the Church and that it was established July, 1904. It wasn't until I retraced my traveling while using Google Maps was I able to figure out what road I was on as well as the county this building is in.

While I took numerous images of the building, this one is my favorite. From this viewpoint one could use their imagination and travel back in time and hear some gospel singing permeating the walls and reaching the observer.

As the photographer, my present day interpretation is this: the Cedar tree to the right represents the life of what this church once had. The Beech tree, with its dead leaves still hanging on, although alive, appears to be overtaking the structure, attempting to obscure the memories of life that was once there.

Sadly, the building is locked up, with no signage anywhere to help in its identity. Structurally it still appears to be sound, and doubtless still provides and provokes intriguing questions, memories... and curious photographers!"
