Looking for photos from Egypt Christian Church history

2026-03-13 - Adair Co., KY - Photo courtesy Egypt Christian Church As Egypt Christian Church prepares to celebrate their 150th anniversary on March 29, 2026, they are looking for old pictures. This one is believed to be a group of Egypt Christian members likely at a revival or gathering.

Records show the first dedicated Egypt Christian church was built in 1914. The clothing of the people in the photo above indicate it was taken around 1903-1908, so it was probably taken at the Egypt Schoolhouse, which was used for other community groups like the Grange or Masons. If anyone has additional information or additional pictures, please share.

A correction, from ECC: "It was not 1914. The actual date was possibly 1895-1900. So this building in picture may very well have been the church building that stood for over 100 years when remodeling brought it down in early 2000s.

Lindsey Wilson University faculty, staff and students visited the world-famous Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Ireland, for a backstage tour before attending a centennial production of Sean O'Casey's classic play "The Plough and the Stars" about the 1916 Easter Rising.

To prepare for the March 1-9, 2026, trip, which was funded in part by a university grant and a gift from the late honorary alumnus Dr. Jerry Westerfield of Russell Springs, the students spent the first seven weeks of the spring semester studying Irish art, culture, film and literature.
