Scenic Adair Co. - concern about Big Clifty Creek

2026-02-19 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Donna Rieder
Clifty Creek Farm owner, Donna Rieder, sends this picture and asks, "What on Earth (or rather, what in Russell Creek) is THIS?? The water from Big Clifty Creek feeds into Russell Creek at what's called the "Sam Coffey Hole." The water normally runs clear, with a "rootbeer" kinda vibe. Russell Creek had this weird, opaque green water flowing this afternoon [Thursday, February 19, 2026]."
