Travel: Don't forget the Supreme Court

2026-06-13 - Washington, D.C. - Photo by Veronica Arnold
Veronica writes, "While many visitors to DC see the monuments and Congress, they often forget to visit the Supreme Court. It is free, open to the public on posted hours. And on certain days and times you can try to get on the free lecture/tour which takes place in the actual courtroom! (Sorry no pictures are given here as electronic devices are prohibited in the courtroom.) So we were able to totally focus on the lecture and learn about the history of the Court and bask in the knowledge that we were sitting where great history has been made. They even let us exit down those front steps on that day! Usually they are closed and visitors are not able to go up or down those steps.

It is a free activity, and one that doesn't take much more than an hour to see most of the exhibits in the Court building. Highly recommend."

Great Wooded South: Smoke from the fire

2026-06-12 - Monterey Co., CA - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge
Billy Joe writes, "After a long and quite torturous bus ride deep into the night, we finally arrived at one of the Marble Cone fire camps in the dark of night. We all grabbed a sleeping bag, got a couple quick hours of sleep.

Upon awaking we were greeted by smoke lifted by such intense heat that moisture was cooling and forming clouds high up in the sky!"

Travel: View from the Washington Monument

2026-06-12 - Washington, D.C. - Photo by Veronica Arnold
Veronica writes, "If you go, please do what you can to get a ticket to go up inside the monument. It isn't a long time consuming activity, but getting there and parking is hard. But seeing all of DC... From up there was amazing!!! 10 out of 10!"
