A lament for old-school ergonomics

A base model Toyota with mechanical window cranks, 2-speed windshield wipers, and a 5-speed manual transmission has served as the Official CM-BRV* since some time in 2019. It was recently relinquished because, with more than a quarter-million miles on the odometer, the clutch was proving more durable than the knees of the driver.

On a last goodbye outing, I had to grab a photo of the climate control system, which is a case study in efficiency and brevity. Does anyone else prefer the simplicity of this sort of system to modern versions with their split-zone temperatures, touch screens, and digital settings? Or is this just curmudgeonly thinking?
