Harold Roderick Wheat, Jr., 72, Russell Springs, KY (1946-2018)

He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. He was a retired Maintence Worker for Corp. of Engineers and a lifetime member of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Jamestown, KY.

Harold Roderick Wheat, Jr. 72, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Saturday September 22nd at the Hosparus Care Center at Nortons in Louisville, KY.

Funeral Services will be at the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy 619, Jamestown, KY, at 2pmCT on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018, with Bro. Stan Milby officiating. Burial will follow in the Wheat Cemetery, in Jamestown, KY.

Friends may visit after 9amCT at the church on Wednesday.


He was born in Jamestown, KY on February 21, 1946, a son of the late Enola (Blakey) and Harold Roderick Wheat.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. He was a retired Maintence Worker for Corp. of Engineers and a lifetime member of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Jamestown, KY.

Harold is survived by:
  • His wife Joan (Burchett) Wheat, of Russell Springs, KY
  • His son Harold Roderick Wheat,III, of Russell Springs, KY
  • A brother Orvis Ray, husband of Betty Wheat, of Jamestown, KY
  • His mother-in-law, Sarah Burchett, of Columbia, KY
  • A niece, Lana, wife of Jackson Maupin, of Mt. Juliet, TN
  • Two aunts, Irene Knight, of Jamestown, KY, and Evelyn Phelps, of Columbia, KY
  • His uncle Lawrence Garvin Blakey, of Jamestown, KY
He is preceded in death by his parents.

Family request donations to Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church building fund or Gideons International and can be made at the church.
