William E. Godbey, 91, Casey County, KY (1927-2018)

He was a retired Post Master, U.S. Marine Veteran of WWII, member and Deacon of Middleburg Baptist Church, former Sunday School teacher, former co-owner of Coffey's Store, Member of The Gideon's International, a Kentucky Colonel and graduate of Middleburg High School. He learned his baking skills while in the military and was well known for his chocolate pies. He loved golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and baking.

William E. Godbey age 91, of Yosemite, KY passed away on Sunday August 19, 2018 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 12noonCT/1pmET Wednesday August 22, 2018 at Middleburg Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Bowling officiating. Burial will be in the Middleburg Cemetery with Military Rites by the Casey County Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 5-8pmCT/6-9pmET Tuesday August 21, 2018 at Bartle Funeral Home, , 142 KY Hwy 49, Liberty, KY, is in charge of arrangements, and after 9amCT/10amET Wednesday August 22, 2018 at Middleburg Baptist Church.

He was born in Cincinnati, OH on April 5, 1927 a son of the late Wallace and Sadie Elva McAninch Godbey.

William was a Retired Post Master, U.S. Marine Corp. Veteran of WWII, Member and Deacon of Middleburg Baptist Church, Former Sunday School Teacher, Former Co-Owner of Coffey's Store, Member of The Gideon's International, Kentucky Colonel, Graduate of Middleburg High School, Learned his baking skills while in the military and was well known for his chocolate pies. He loved golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and baking.

Survivors include:
  • His Spouse - Pauline Estes Godbey

  • One Daughter - Linda and (Jerry) Hamilton of Liberty

  • One Son - Paul William Godbey of Yosemite

  • Three Grandchildren - Cedric Allen and (Melinda) Hamilton, Sadie Katherine Godbey and Allen Payne Godbey

  • Two Great Grandchildren - Lily Grace Hamilton and Landon Graham Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Gideon's International or the Middleburg Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 83 Middleburg, KY 42541
