Homeplace on Green River soared with good gospel music and good humor Saturday evening despite the heat. About 120 people attended the first full theater production - Smoke on the Mountain , in the renovated barn at the farm.

The players received a long-standing ovation when the show was over.

The production was preceded by a fish dinner prepared by Adair County’s First Baptist Church. The play included some familiar faces on the local stage including Hanna Peck, Kevin Baily, Renee’ Daffon, Sharon Archey and Lindsey’s assistant director of theater, Jeremy Cloyd. Lindsey students included veteran actors Tyler Harding, Sydney Shearer and Thomas Alvey.

Smoke on the Mountain is set in a Baptist Church in the mountains of North Carolina in the mid-1930s. It features lots of old hymns and church humor. The actors, from Adair County and Lindsey Wilson College, endured the hot weather as did the audience. The cast received a long enthusiastic standing ovation.

Directed by Lindsey Wilson College Director or Theater Robert Brock, Smoke on the Mountain is one of three plays on Brock’s 2018 summer TheatreFest schedule.

The remaining two shows will also be performed at both the college and at Homeplace.

Homeplace will show Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen from Verona July 21 and a children's play, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, July 28, 2018. Dinner will be served at both shows. Reservations can be made by calling Phil Hanna at 270-384-2894 or by e-mail at cphanna51@msn.com. Seating is limited.
