KIA Board approves $950,000 to Marion County Water District The existing PVC waterline was installed in the 1970s and has a history of leaks, splits and breaks. Click on headline for complete story From Kentucky Infrastructure Authority FRANKFORT, KY (19 Jun 2018) - The Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KIA) Board has approved a $950,000 loan to the Marion County Water District to replace approximately five miles of waterline along McElroy Pike and Highway 289. The existing PVC waterline was installed in the 1970s and has a history of leaks, splits and breaks. Officials believe this is due to improper installation. "Replacing the current waterline will improve water quality and service for the customers served by the Marion County Water District," said Department for Local Government Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo, who also serves as chair of the KIA Board. "I'm pleased to support this project." Among its functions, KIA provides low-interest loans to public utilities for projects having to do with storm water control treatment systems, solid waste management systems and other infrastructure vital to public health. "I'm glad that we could work with Marion County Water District on this project," KIA Executive Director Donna McNeil said. "These improvements will ensure that resources are efficiently utilized." "I appreciate KIA's support of this critical project and look forward to seeing it get off the ground," Rep. Brandon Reed said. "These improvements will help us provide better services to Marion County residents." KIA was created in 1988 to provide funding mechanisms for local public works projects. As of last year, the agency had provided more than $1.7 billion in assistance to municipalities across the Commonwealth wanting to expand access to potable water.
