George W. Austin, 81, Adair County, KY (1937-2018)


He served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict, was a member of Greasy Creek Baptist Church in Green County, and had been a truck driver for Ruan Transport for 34 years. He was a native of Clinton County, KY and a resident of Adair County, KY, at the time of his death in Barren County, KY. He was the patriarch of a highly regarded South Central Kentucky family. He leaves 11 direct living descendants. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan May Roberts Austin in 2007. His final resting place will be in Green County, KY.

George W. Austin, 81, of Columbia, KY, died Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 10:15 P.M. at Diversicare of Glasgow.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 10amCT at Greasy Creek Baptist Church, 7100 Edmonton Road, Greensburg, KY, with Bro. Roger Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Greasy Creek Cemetery. Visitation is after 5pmCT Tuesday, June 19, 2018 and after 8amCT Wednesday at the church.

He was born April 26, 1937, in Albany, Clinton County, KY . He died on June 14, 2018 in Glasgow, Barren County, KY, at the age of 81 years, one month, and 19 days. He served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict, was a member of Greasy Creek Baptist Church in Green County and a truck driver for Ruan Transport for 34 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan May Roberts Austin, on May 16, 2007.

Survivors include:
  • Three children - Judi Tester of Columbia, KY; Dave Roberts of Minnesota, and Phil Austin of Colorado

  • Four grandchildren - Jaremy (Ann Marie) Austin, Tony (Alyse) Roberts, Michael (Lindsey) Tester, Wayne (Melinda) Tester

  • Four great-grandchildren

Memorials are suggested to Greasy Creek Baptist Church, and can be left at the church, 7100 Edmonton Rd, Greensburg, KY.
