Bessie Bledsoe, 97, of the Bakerton Community of Adair County, KY, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:40pmCT at TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow, KY after several weeks illness.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 2pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Clergy officiating will be Bro. Elbert Hadley. Interment will be in the Hardin Hadley Cemetery at Bakerton, KY. The family requests visiting after 3pmCT Saturday at the funeral home.



Bessie Bledsoe, 97, Adair County, KY (1920-2018)

She was born June 3, 1920 in Monroe County, KY, the daughter of the late Oliver J. and Mary Susie Hale Turner. She died Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:40pmCT at TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow, Barren County, KY, at the age of 97 years, 11 months, and 21 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Murrell Bledsoe on November 12, 1987.

She was also preceded in death by these siblings Wendell Turner, Margie Ford, Zella Burris, Neva Hale, Hettie Wheet, two sons-in-law, Creed Lacy and Bob Turner, and by her "adopted son" Lonnie McWhorter.

She is survived by
  • One son: Paul Bledsoe and wife Carolyn of Columbia, KY

  • Three daughters: Willa Lacy of Fairplay, KY; Ernestine Netherton of Fairplay, KY; and Paulette Turner of Shepherdsville, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Kevin Turner, Mackie Jo Pennington, Tamara Davidson, Dorinda Morrison and Angie Hanka

  • Three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Bledsoe was a member of the Emory Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible and many other books. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and growing exotic orchids.
