Viola Smith Hurd, 75, Cumberland County, KY (1942-2018)

She was a member of Turkey Neck Bend Church of Christ, worked as a seamstress at Bob Evans and was a homemaker. She was a member of a respected South Central Kentucky family, a native of Fulton County, IL, and a resident of Cumberland County, KY, at the time of her death. Her final resting place will be in Maxey Cemetery in Monroe County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Jimmy & Mary (Smith) Smith, and the widow of Tip Bennett Hurd. She leaves three direct living descendants.

Mrs. Viola Maxine Smith Hurd of Burkesville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

The Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1pmCT, in The Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY. Burial will be in the Maxey Cemetery in Monroe County, KY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, after 6pmCT, Friday, May 18, 2018 until the funeral hour on Saturday.



Viola Smith Hurd, 75, Cumberland County, KY (1942-2018)


She was born in Canton, Fulton County, IL, on Sunday, October 18, 1942. She was the daughter of Jimmy & Mary (Smith) Smith. She died Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at the age of 75 years, six months, and 27 days. She was a member of Turkey Neck Bend Church of Christ, worked as a seamstress at Bob Evans and was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Tip Bennett Hurd, whom she wed on Sunday, July 3, 1966; and a brother, Joseph R. Smith. She is survived by:
  • Her son: Joey Hurd (and Ruthe Smith) of Burkesville, KY

  • A brother: Donnie (and Sharon) Smith of Indianapolis, IN

  • Her sisters: Louise (and Sherman) McCoy of Burkesville, KY; Darlene Fletcher of Burkesville, KY; Betty Cary of Burkesville, KY; Ann (and Bobby) Jaggers of Greenfield, IN

  • One granddaughter: Jessica Grider

  • One great granddaughter: Bella Mae Grider

  • Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
