Richie Janes, 70, Adair County, KY (1947-2018)

He operated Janes' Fertilizer & Farm Supply at Gradyville for 39 years and was a farmer. He was a member of 3trees Church and was currently serving on the Adair County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was a member of the Adair County Cattlemen's Association and of the Kentucky Fertilizer Association. He possessed an indomitable spirit and was an inspiration to all he met. He had a quick wit, a ready smile, and a hearty zest for life. He had a singular ability to make others' days better regardless of challenges he himself might face. He was the progeny of strong, proud, successful Adair County families and he added his own luster to their records and remarkable achievements. He was the son of R. Bernard Janes, who survives. and the late L V Sexton Janes. He was the widower of Linda Kay Neagle Janes, who died in 1983. His wife Sandy Withers Janes survives. He leaves a large family of daughters and a son, and many grandchildren and great grand children - and one soon to come - to carry on his legacy. His final resting place will be in his native Gradyville, at Union Cemetery, among so many of history's heroes buried there. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

Richie Janes, age 70 years, of the Gradyville Community, Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday May 15, 2018 at 2:45pmET, at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, KY.

Funeral service Friday, May 18, 2018 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Pastor Eric Gilbert the officiating clergy. Visitation will be after 3:30pmCT, Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. Interment at Gradyville, in Union Cemetery, 174 Milltown Church Road, Columbia, KY.



Richie Janes, 70, Gradyville, Adair County, KY (1947-2018)

He was born Thursday, August 14, 1947 in Gradyville, KY, the son of R. Bernard Janes & the late L V Sexton Janes, who preceded him in death on November 3, 2015. He died Tuesday, May 15, 2018, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 70 years, nine months, and one day.

Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Kay Neagle Janes, on November 15, 1983.

He is survived by his father: R. Bernard Janes of Columbia, KY

He is survived by his wife: Sandy Withers Janes of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Three daughters: Stacey Coffey & her husband Darrell of Columbia, KY; Kelly Eaton & her husband, Dallas of Glasgow, KY; and Keisha Baker & her husband Brent of Columbia, KY

  • One son: Chris Cowan of Columbia, KY

  • One sister: Ann Dunbar and her husband Billy of Russell Springs, KY

  • Eleven grandchildren

  • Seven great grandchildren and one on the way

  • Mother-in-law: Jeanette Withera Keith and husband David of Columbia, KY

  • Several nephews, nieces, other relatives & friends
He was a member of 3trees Church and operated Janes' Fertilizer & Farm Supply at Gradyville for 39 years and was a farmer. He was currently serving on the Adair County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, a member of the Adair County Cattlemen's Association, a member of the Kentucky Fertilizer Association.
