Betty I. Burton, Adair & Wayne Co's., KY/Bartholemew Co. IN (1940-2018)

She was a member of a highly regarded family, the daughter of the late Loren and Glenna Hancock. She was a native of Wayne County, KY, and grew up in Adair County, KY. Her husband, Leamon Burton, survives. She leaves eight direct living descendants. Seven siblings of a total of 12, now survive, including brothers Oral and Ronnie Hancock of Columbia, KY, and Jeff Hancock of Russell Springs, KY. She had retired from Columbus Sportswear. She attended The Ridge and Northview Assembly of God. Betty liked to read and enjoyed walking. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Her final resting place will be in her adopted hometown, Hope, IN.

Betty I. Burton, 77, of Hope, IN, formerly of Adair County, KY, died Friday, May 11, 2018 at her home.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2017, at 10amCT/11amET, at Norman Funeral Home, 604 Main Street, Hope, IN with Rev. Gerald Hancock, Randy Burton, and Eric Burton officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

Born on October 21, 1940 in Wayne County, KY, Betty was the daughter of Loren and Glenna Hancock. She died Friday, May 11, 2018, at her home in Hope, IN, at the age of 77 years, six months, and 20 days.

She had retired from Columbus Sportswear. She attended The Ridge and Northview Assembly of God.

Betty liked to read and enjoyed walking. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

She married Leamon Burton on March 15, 1961, and he survives.

Other survivors include:
  • Her two children: Randall E. (Cynthia) Burton of Columbus, IN; and Russell L. (Diane) Burton of Hope, IN

  • Her two grandchildren: Eric E. (Courtney) Burton of Columbus, IN and Craig R. (Brittany) Burton of Hope, IN

  • Her four great-grandchildren: Elayna J. Burton and Calissa N. Burton, both of Columbus, IN; and Morgan R. Burton and Lauren D. Burton, both of Hope, IN

  • Her seven siblings: Oral Hancock of Columbia, KY; Vera Burris of Columbus, IN; Gerald (Martha) Hancock of Columbus, IN; Jay R. (Nancy) Hancock of Springfield, VA; Carolyn (Rick) Perry of Flora, IL, Jeff (Patricia) Hancock of Russell Springs, KY; and Ronnie (Danette) Hancock of Columbia, KY.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Charlene Taylor and Jewell Law; brother, Lonnie Hancock; and infant sister, Geneva R. Hancock.
