Mr. James Griffin departed this life on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at his home in Greensburg, KY. He was 85 years old.

His service will be at Mt. Union Baptist Church, 1524 Taylors Chapel Rd, Summersville, KY at 12noonCT Saturday, April 28, 2018. Wake and Visitation times are 10amCT until the funeral hour at noon at the church. Ministers: Rev. Mike Ash, Eulogy and Rev. Douglas Barbour, Master of Ceremony. Pallbearers: Steve Williams, Ricky Williams, Donnie "Squirrel" Williams, T.J. Thompson, Larry Compton and Michael Embry. Honorary Pallbearers: Joe Bridgewater, James Mann Thornton, Arzo Miller, and Bill Higgins.

He was born on July 26, 1932 in Durant, MI to the late Willie and Mattie (Saffold) Griffin. He died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at his home in Greensburg, KY. He was 85 years old.

He was a member of Mt. Union Baptist Church in Summersville, KY, where he was an usher. He worked at Kentucky Trailers in Louisville, KY and Save-A-Lot Food Store in Greensburg, KY.

James is survived by:
  • His wife of 33 years, Virginia Griffin of Greensburg, KY

  • Four children, Donald Keith (Karen) Griffin of Raleigh, NC; Michelle (Vincent) Hobbs of Louisville, KY; and Robert Earl Griffin and James Griffin, Jr

  • One step son Jeffrey (Annita Dila) Barnett of Columbia, KY

  • Three siblings, Charlotte (Walter) Fisher of West, MS; Daisy (Jimmy) Frison of Chicago, IL; Leola (Nathaniel) Moore of Louisville, KY

  • One sister-in-law: Evelyn Nuckols of Horse Cave, KY

  • Two brothers-in-law: John Thomas (Margaret) Thompson of Summersville and Bill Higgins of Keene, KY

  • Three grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren

  • One great grand-child and six step great-grandchilren

  • A host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Beatrice Grant, Irma Bailey, Alvie Bailey and Lillie Wade; four brothers Willie D. Griffin; Marshall Griffin; Amos Griffin and John T. Griffin.
