Vernon Lee (Cricket) Rogers, Perryville, KY (1946-2018)

He was a retiree from the Kentucky Department of Corrections Northpoint Training Center. Vernon was a Vietnam veteran and proudly served in the United States Army and the Kentucky National Guard. He will be accorded full military honors by the Marion County Honor Guard at committal rites at Whited Cemetery, Casey County, KY. He was a loving husband and brother. Vernon loved his motorcycle, animals and camping. His wife of 27 years, Trena Cummins Rodgers, survives. He leaves two direct living descendants.

Vernon L. "Cricket" Rogers, 72, of Perryville, KY, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, KY.

The funeral service will be held at 12pmNoonCT/1pmET, on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY with Rev. Marty Shackleford officiating. Burial will follow in Whited Cemetery in Casey County, KY. Military honors will be provided by the Marion County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, on Friday, April 13, 2018, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.



Pallbearers will be John R. Mattingly, Scott Barlow, Matthew Simpson, Danny Bottom, Lonnie Matlock and Anthony Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Allen and Frank Sheene.

Vernon Lee Rogers, Perryville, KY (1946-2018)

Born on April 2, 1946, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, he was a son of the late June Rogers Thompson. He died Monday, April 9, 2018, in Lexington, Fayette County, KY, at the age of 72 years, seven days.

He was a retiree from the Kentucky Department of Corrections Northpoint Training Center. Vernon was a Vietnam veteran and proudly served in the United States Army and the Kentucky National Guard. He was a loving husband and brother. Vernon loved his motorcycle, animals and camping.

He is survived by:
  • His loving wife: Trena Cummins Rogers, whom he wed on February 15, 1991

  • A son: Robert Lee Rogers of Bardstown, KY

  • A grandson: Ryan Lee Rogers of Junction City, KY

  • A sister: Crystal (Jerry) Thompson of Simpsonville, KY

  • A brother: James (Martha) Thompson of Mt. Washington, KY

  • His beloved niece: Megan Simpson

  • His nephew: Matthew (Meagan) Simpson

  • His great-niece, Julie Vanhook

  • In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his loving grandparents that raised him, Vernon and Eva Lee Wilkerson Rogers.
