Sophie Mae Allen Marples, 95, Casey County, KY

Sophie was a member of Pine Grove Community Church. She was a homemaker. She loved crocheting, flowers, and especially gardening green beans. She was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the widow of Unas Marples. She leaves 28 direct living descendants.

Sophie Mae "Allen" Marples, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Liberty Care Center, having attained the age of 95.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT/2pmET on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY with Bro. Jeff Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Gum Lick Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4-8pmCT/5-9pmET on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.



Sophie Mae "Allen" Marples, 95, Casey County, KY

Born on June 13, 1922, in Casey County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Henry Allen and Lilly Buck Allen. She died on Sunday, March 25, 2018, in Liberty, Casey County, KY, having attained the age of 95 years, nine months, and 12 days.

Sophie was a member of Pine Grove Community Church. She was a homemaker. She loved crocheting, flowers, and especially gardening green beans.

Ms. Marples is survived by:
  • Three sons: Dale (Barbara) Marples of Liberty; Gene (Rhonda) Marples of Vero Beach, Florida; and Jeff (Karen) Marples of Liberty

  • Ten grandchildren: Melodie, Beverly, Bobby, Aaron, JoAnne, Joey, Becky, Tyler, Nick and Brandon

  • Fifteen great-grandchildren

  • Three brothers: Thad (Lorene) Allen of Liberty, KY; Garnett (Vicky) Allen of Liberty, and Kermit (Connie) Allen of Hamilton, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Sophie was preceded in death by her husband, Unas Marples, who passed away on October 27, 1994; a son, Elton Marples; three sisters, Loshie Peck, Waddie Browning and Margie Allen; and four brothers, Franklin Allen, Dee Allen, Omer Allen and Onsby Allen.
