Susie Grant, 89, Little Cake, Adair Co., KY (1928-2017)

She was one of Adair County's most beloved citizens of all time. She was the matriarch of one of Adair County's great families. She was the daughter of the late Willy Gustav Otto & Margarethe Maria Huther Pelz of Muhlheim/Main, Germany, and the widow of Sidney Grant. She leaves 26 direct and eight step living descendants. Mrs. Grant was a member of the Tabernacle Christian Church. She was a former Adair County Homemaker of the Year. She wrote a column for local media, "The Ladies Corner" newspaper article, which was one of the longest running columns of all time. She was the author of many books, including the definitive history of Neatsville. Mrs. Grant was active and involved in numerous community organizations for many years.

Susie Grant, 88, a longtime resident of the Little Cake Community of Adair County, KY passed away Thursday, December 21, at 11:50amCT, at the Signature Health Care Summit Manor in Columbia, KY after several weeks illness.

Funeral service Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Coffey and Bro. Eldon Rucker the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columiba, KY. The family request visitation after 4pmCT, on Friday, December 22, 2017, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Pallbearers: Adam Cole, Jackie Grant, Jonathan Gaskins, Michael Hinkle, Joe Morgeson, and Jason Smith.

She was born November 12, 1928 in Muhlheim/Main, Germany, the daughter of the late Willy Gustav Otto & Margarethe Maria Huther Pelz of Germany. She died Thursday, December 21, 2017, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 89 years, one month, and nine days.

Mrs. Grant was a member of the Tabernacle Christian Church. She was a former Adair County Homemaker of the Year. She wrote The Ladies Corner newspaper article for many years. Mrs. Grant was active and involved in numerous community organizations for many years. Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her husband - Sidney Grant on February 17, 2006 and by one son, Tommy Grant; a grandson Cody Smith; a granddaughter Michelle Cole; a son-in-law, Ron French; and a daughter-in-law,, Sharon Grant. She is survived by:
  • One son: Edward Grant of Columbia, KY

  • Three daughters: Hilda Smith & husband Billy of Columbia, KY; Carolyn Gaskins & husband Amos of Columbia, KY; and Wanda French of Campbellsville, KY

  • One brother: Willi Pelz (Erika) of Harrisburg, NC

  • One sister: Heidi Otto of Muhlheim/Main, Germany

  • Seven grandchildren: Jason Smith (Sherry), Tammy Morgeson (Joe), Rhonda Roberts, Adam Cole (Hope), Jackie Grant (Wendy), Angela Hinkle (Michael), and Jonathan Gaskins (Jessica)

  • Fifteen great grandchildren

  • Three step great grandchildren

  • Five step great-great-grandchildren

  • Special friends: Terica Derringer and Lisa and Nadalie Inscho
