Henry Garnett Lay, Casey County, KY (1924-2017)

He was a World War ll Army Air Forces veteran. His final resting place will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, where he will be rendered full military hon0rs by the Casey County Honor Guard at committal rites. He was the former owner and operator of the Western Auto Store in Liberty, KY. Mr. Lay attained an electrical engineering degree from the University of KY. He retired from Westinghouse Corporation after many years of dedicated service as an electrical engineer. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. He greatly enjoyed loafing at McDonalds with his friends. He was the son of the late Albert & Zona Etta Martin Lay. His wife, Doris Farmer Lay, survives. He leaves 12 direct living descendants. Many Adair Countians will remember his late brother, Maurice Lay, who operated the Western Auto Store for many years in Columbia.

Henry Garnett Lay, of Liberty, passed away on November 21, 2017, at the University of KY Medical Center in Lexington, KY. He was 93.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30amCT/12:30pmET, on Monday, November 27, 2017, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Campbellsville, KY, with Tyler VanAllen officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30pmCT/2:30pmET, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Road, Nicholasville, KY. Military honors will be provided by the Casey County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 4pm-6pmCT/5pm-7pmET, Sunday, November 26, 2017, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Born on March 11, 1924, in Casey County, KY, he was a son of the late Edgar Albert and Zona Etta Martin Lay. He died Tuesday, November 21, 2017, in Lexington, Fayette County, KY, at the age of 93 years, eight months, and 10 days.

Garnett was a World War ll Army Air Forces veteran. He was the former owner and operator of the Western Auto Store in Liberty, KY. Mr. Lay attained an electrical engineering degree from the University of KY. He retired from Westinghouse Corporation after many years of dedicated service as an electrical engineer. Garnett was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. He greatly enjoyed loafing at McDonalds with his friends.

Mr. Lay is survived his wife, Doris Farmer Lay, and the following:
  • A daughter: Vickie (and Terry) Allen of Liberty, KY

  • A sister: Wauneeta Slaughter of Lancaster, KY

  • A brother: Ervin (and Faye) Lay of Ft. Myers Beach, FL

  • Four grandchildren

  • Seven great-grandchildren
In addition to his parents, Garnett is predeceased by three brothers, John Lay, Maurice Lay, and Russell Lay.
