Glynn (Red) Nixon, 79, Adair County, KY (1938-2017)

Red was an original member of the Adair County Rescue Squad and a former member of the Adair County Jaycees. He was a retired educator and coach in the Adair County School System, having taught science and physical education and coached basketball, cross country, golf and track. He was also a longtime carpenter, and had established a region wide reputation for his expertise in restoration of landmark building. He was of of the Christian faith. He was a member of a highly regarded Adair County family. He was the son of the late Frank & Polly Hood Nixon. His wife of 54 years, Susanne Statome Nixon, survives. He leaves four direct and two step living descendants.

Glynn "Red" Nixon, 79, of Columbia, died Friday, September 15, 2017 at 6:30amET, at the Norton Healthcare Pavilion in Louisville, KY.

Funeral service will be Monday, September 18, 2017 at 11amCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY with Bro. Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 1pmCT, Sunday, September 17, 2017, at the funeral home.



Glynn (Red) Nixon, 79, Adair County, KY (1938-2017)


He was born Tuesday, July 5, 1938, in Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late Frank & Polly Hood Nixon. He died Friday, September 15, 2017, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 79 years, two months, and 10 days.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Nixon; and one sister, Dorothy Nixon.

Red was an original member of the Adair County Rescue Squad and a former member of the Adair County Jaycees. He was a retired educator and coach in the Adair County School System, having taught science and physical education and coached basketball, cross country, golf and track. He was also a longtime carpenter and of the Christian faith.

Survivor include:

  • His wife of 54 years: Susanne Statome Nixon of Columbia, KY

  • One son: Steve (Jerri) Nixon of Columbia, KY

  • One daughter: Rebecca Nixon (Jerry Saettel) of Louisville, KY

  • One brother: Carson Lynn "Blackie" (Nina) Nixon of Indiana

  • Two grandchildren: Ashton Nicole Nixon & Jordan Glynn Nixon, both of Columbia, KY

  • Two step-grandchildren: Trenton Brody Watson and Trinity Addison Carta, both of Columbia, KY

  • Brother-in-law: Dennis Carl Statome of Virginia

  • Several nieces & other relatives & friends
