Mary A. Claywell, 78, Adair Co., KY/Lauderdale Co., TN native (1938-2017)

Mrs. Claywell was a member of Hadley's Community Church. she was a homemaker and was an avid gardener; she loved yard work and was an excellent cook. She was a member of a large, highly respected, South Adair County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Arnold & Elizabeth Holcomb Watson. Her husband, Irvin Claywell, survives. She leaves 15 direct living descendants.

Mary A. Claywell 78, of Columbia, KY, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:22pmCT, at her home after a sudden illness.

Funeral service will be Wednesday August 23, 2017 at 11amCT, at Hadley's Community Church, 8269 Fairplay Road, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Elbert Hadley the officiating clergy. Interment in the Fudge Cemetery, 847 Independence Ridge Road, Breeding, KY. The familys requests visiting after 4pmCT, on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY.

Mary A. Claywell 78, of Columbia, KY, was born October 2, 1938 in Ripley, Lauderdale County, TN. She was the daughter of the late Arnold & Elizabeth Holcomb Watson. She died Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:22pmCT, at her home in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 78 years, 10 months, and 16 days.

Mrs. Claywell was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Watson in 1982; and by two brothers James Douglas Watson, Thomas Lynwood Watson and a sister Rebecca Watson

She is survived by her husband Irvin R. Claywell of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • One daughter: Gina and husband Brandon Schaal of Crest Hill, IL

  • Two sons: Wade Claywell of The Colony, TX; and Michael and wife Jan Claywell of Lewisville, TX

  • Five sisters: Evelyn White of Illinois, Annie Sue George of Illinois; and Josephine King, Shelia Campbell and Beverly (William)West all of Tennessee

  • Seven grandchildren: Elizabeth (Scott) Colley, Matthew (Shelbee) Lee, Tanner Claywell, Tonya (Ben) Rapp, Jessica Claywell, Claudia Sparks, and Joseph Claywell

  • Five great grandchildren

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • And a host of other relatives and friends
send condolences to the family of Mary A. Claywell

Expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers may take the form of a donation to Hadley's Community Church and may be left at the funeral home
