Velma McVay, 93, Taylor County, KY (1924-2017)

She was a native of Taylor County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Claude Russell & Annie Lee Saunders Russell and the widow of Russell McVay, her husband of 51 years. She leaves 25 direct living descendants, spanning four generations. She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville. She was an avid reader, loved playing Rook with friends, working puzzles and she loved her flowers.

Velma McVay of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Claude Russell & Annie Lee Saunders Russell was born April 23, 1924 in Taylor County, KY. She died at 11amCT, Sunday, July 2, 2017, in Campbellsville.

The funeral service will be at 1pmCT/2pmET, Thursday July 6, 2017 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. A. Landon Hadley. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 700 Old US 68, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation will be 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.

Velma McVay of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Claude Russell & Annie Lee Saunders Russell was born April 23, 1924 in Taylor County, KY. She died at 11amCT, Sunday, July 2, 2017, in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 93 years, one month, and 10 days.

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Green River Memorial Baptist Church.

She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville.

Velma was an avid reader, loved playing Rook with friends, working puzzles and she loved her flowers.

Velma united in marriage to Russell McVay April 24, 1942. He preceded her in death September 21, 1993.

She is survived by:
  • Three sons and daughters-in-law: John and Helen McVay, Tommy and Margaret McVay and Randy and Mary McVay of Campbellsville, KY

  • Eight grandchildren: Debbie Tungate and husband, Martin; Lisa Cave and husband, Kevin; John W. McVay and wife, Kim; Amy Colvin and husband, Jerry; Stephanie Maggard, and Tommy McVay, Jr., all of Campbellsville, KY; Andrea Hartman and husband, Todd of Bowling Green, KY; and Allen McVay and wife, Natalie of Hopkinsville, KY

  • Thirteen great- grandchildren: Wade Cave, Lydia Cave who was her special friend and caregiver; Brayden McVay, Brianna McVay, Bailey Colvin, Riley Colvin, Briar McVay, Lexie McVay, Lily Hartman, Emerson McVay, Cobe McVay, Mykenzi McVay and Emily McVay

  • One great-great granddaughter: Braelyn Ann McVay

  • One sister: Grace Wilson of Campbellsville, KY

  • And one brother: Les Russell and wife, Mary Ann of Liberty, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • And many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by five brothers: Richard Russell, Tom Russell, Wallace Russell, Bob Russell and Fred Louis Russell.
